Internal investigations

We handle regulatory investigations for companies and individuals in federal and state courts, self-regulatory organizations such as FINRA, and before federal and state administrative agencies. We understand how sensitive these matters are. If not handled properly they can cause severe reputational harm to a person or organization–or worse. Internal investigations require thoroughness, integrity, and an understanding of how the legal and factual issues involved can have a larger impact on a career or an entire organization. We work efficiently and effectively to determine what has actually happened, and to prepare your strategy in response to those findings.

Our lawyers have investigated issues including securities fraud, mail and wire fraud, embezzlement, accounting fraud, conspiracy, and other forms of misconduct.

We have defended investigations of individuals and corporations brought by a variety of federal and state governmental bodies and agencies including: the SEC; the Attorneys General of New York and Illinois; Ohio Department of Insurance; and Ohio Department of Commerce, Securities Division. We also have extensive experience representing Member Firms and individuals in proceedings initiated by FINRA Department of Enforcement and Department of Market Regulation.

Our experience, combined with the independence afforded by our size, makes Matasar Jacobs a reasoned choice when you are seeking professional judgment and frank advice in situations where your company’s regular outside law firm has a conflict or is otherwise not the appropriate choice to lead the investigation.
